Army Chief of Staff visited a number of military units deployed in south Lebanon
The Lebanese Army Chief of Staff Major General P.S.C Hatem Mallak visited this morning a number of military units deployed in the south. He toured both regional headquarters and the first Infantry Brigade in Saïda as well as the second Intervention Regiment posts in Zahrani, the 5th Intervention Regiment in Kfardounin – Bint Jbeil as well as the South Litani Sector Command in Tyre. The Chief of Staff inspected the situation of the units, their defensive and security missions and held a meeting with the officers and soldiers to whom he gave the appropriate instructions.
Chief of Staff Mallak praised the efforts of the troops and the sacrifices they are making to defend the southern border and to consolidate peace and stability in the south in general. He confirmed that after vanquishing terrorist groups at the eastern border that became currently under the firm grip of the army, the success in halting infiltration attempts through the border, the internal situation became more stable and secure, and thus the Army took hold of the initiative and assumed the responsibility of decimating terrorist cells in the bud. Furthermore, the Army grew in terms of readiness and preparedness to confront the Israeli enemy. He called on the troops to intensify comprehensive and qualitative training in order to cope with surprises and different combat conditions. He stressed that the continuous threats made by this enemy against Lebanon will not terrorize the army from performing its sacred right in defending the country and shall not deter it from providing support to the resistance of the people that is clinging to its freedom and national sovereignty to the highest degree. He added that the army is endowed with professionalism and readiness as well as the combat will to perform this duty. He concluded his speech by confirming that the mission of defending the southern areas must go in parallel with ensuring its stability while respecting the clauses of resolution 1701 in close cooperation and coordination with the UNIFIL.
