The Army headquarters announced the demise of former Minister of Defense – Former LAF Commander Retired General Victor el Khoury who passed away on 02/02/2017. In the following is the summary of his life:
- Born on 01/01/1929 in Aamshit - Byblos.
- Enlisted in the Army as cadet officer starting 09/10/1948.
- Was promoted to Lieutenant as of 09/10/1950 and rose to Brigadier General as of 28/03/1977. During this period, he was assigned to several leading posts including: battalion commander, brigade Chief of Staff, force commander and head of studies, organization and planning office.
- Was appointed LAF Commander on 02/08/1978 and minister of Defense from 20/12/1978 till 16/07/1979.
- Retired on 22/05/1983.
- Was granted the commemorative Palestine medal in 1949, the silver Lebanese merit medal in 1959 as well as the orders of: War (bronze star), 31 January in 1961 and 1971, national order of the cedar – Knight, merit- silver, paramedic, war, Lebanese merit-first grade, national order of the cedar – Commander and National order of the Cedar – Grand officer, as well as the commendations and congratulations of the LAF Commander several times.
- Attended several courses inside Lebanon, France and the U.S.A.
- Married with 3 children.
The deceased will be transferred on 03/02/2017 at 10.00 from the central military hospital to Mar Youhanna Church – Aamchit where the prayers will be held at 15.00 in the mentioned church and the burial will take place in the family cemeteries.
Condolences will be offered before and after the funeral and on 4 and 5/02/2017 from 11.00 till 19.00 in the hall of the mentioned church.
