Prime Minister Mikati chaired a Cabinet meeting at the Benoit Barakat barracks, where he inspected several military positions
Prime Minister Najib Mikati chaired a Cabinet meeting at the Benoit Barakat barracks to discuss security developments following the recent Israeli aggression on Lebanon, in the presence of the LAF Commander General Joseph Aoun. The Cabinet expressed its full confidence in the army and all security forces, pledging support at various levels. General Aoun presented a briefing on the operational plan prepared by the command and the security arrangements for enhancing the army's deployment in South Litani, which the government approved.
Afterward, Prime Minister Mikati, accompanied by several ministers and General Aoun, visited the Shwakir and Qlayleh military positions, where he met with the soldiers and praised their sacrifices during this exceptional period. He then listened to a briefing from the commander of the Second Intervention Regiment at the Shwakir Center regarding its missions to enhance military deployment in the South.
Prime Minister Mikati addressed the soldiers, stating, "Today's meeting at the Benoit Barakat barracks aims to convey our support for you and to emphasize that we stand by your side and have complete confidence in you. You are the nation’s defenders and its pride." He added, "We need stability in the South, as a secure South means a secure country for all. You are in a vital and advanced position, and you have our full support and prayers."
He also visited the Qlayleh center to meet with the personnel injured during the Israeli attack on the facility on November 24, 2024, and assessed their conditions.
Additionally, Prime Minister Mikati, accompanied by the Minister of Public Works and Transport Ali Hamieh and the LAF Commander, inspected the command center of the Fifth Infantry Brigade in Al Biyada, which had been targeted by the Israeli enemy during the recent aggression. He reviewed the measures implemented to enhance deployment in their designated area. Prime Minister Mikati praised the performance and sacrifices of the brigade’s personnel, particularly following the loss of 10 soldiers and the injury of 57 others.
