Signing of the Protocol for reconstruction of Beirut Naval Base

This morning, a protocol was signed concerning the reconstruction of Beirut Naval Base, which was damaged by the blast in Port of Beirut. The protocol was signed on behalf the German authorities by the German ambassador to Lebanon, Mr. Andreas KINDL, and on behalf of the Lebanese army, LAF Commander in chief General Joseph Aoun, in the presence of the German military attaché, Lieutenant Colonel Heino MATZKEN and a number of officers.

Ambassador KINDL confirmed that Germany is standing by LAF and continuing to support it as a reliable partner.  He also pointed out that the authorities of his country intend in the future to develop this cooperation in a variety of fields.

On the other hand, General Aoun expressed his deep thanks to the German government for this initiative, and valued the sacrifices of the German soldiers working within UNIFIL, stressing the continuation of work to consolidate the distinguished relations between the German and Lebanese armies.
