The Lebanese Army Commander in Chief Visits Beirut Air Base and Offers Condolences to the Families of the Two Martyred Officers Following the Crash of a Military Helicopter
The Lebanese Army Commander in Chief General Joseph Aoun visited Beirut Air Base where he met with officers and military personnel following the crash of a millitary helicopter in Hammana and the martyrdom of Captain Pilot Joseph Hanna and First Lieutenant Pilot Richard Saab. He stressed that the loss to the military institution is great, but on the other hand, sacrifice is inherent to soldiers, even to the point of martyrdom if duty requires.
He praised the efforts and high professionalism of the Air Force during the various missions they perform, praising the achievements they have accomplished, especially in the face of terrorism, during the Fajr Al Jouroud Operation, the fight against drug gangs, and recently in the firefighting missions in Greece and Cyprus, which was appreciated by the authorities of both countries. He also highlighted the excellence of these forces in maintaining and developing the air capabilities of the army despite limited resources.
He stated, "We grow through our martyrs, and their blood will not be in vain. It is a driving force that strengthens our will to endure and persist. The army has sacrificed martyrs on the altar of the nation during many missions, whether facing the Israeli enemy, terrorism, or pursuing drug dealers and criminals. We will not retreat in the face of difficulties, and we will continue to preserve the blood of our martyrs and the dignity of our soldiers. Retreat is not in our vocabulary, and we have no choice but to continue."
He added, "The military institution grows with you. You are the backbone of Lebanon, as affirmed by the trust of the Lebanese people and friendly nations in you."
Then General Aoun went to the city of Choueifat and Bkennaya-Metn, where he offered condolences to the families of the two martyred officers, and praised their virtues and commitment to performing their sacred duty.
