Armed Clash Between Army Personnel and Smugglers in the Outskirts of Arsal; Smuggling Attempt Foiled Along the Lebanese-Syrian Border
The Lebanese Army Command – Directorate of Orientation issued the following statement:
On 7 October 2026, while carrying out exceptional measures to monitor and secure the Lebanese-Syrian border, an armed clash took place in the outskirts of the town of Arsal between Army personnel and smugglers, with no injuries reported. The Army unit foiled the smuggling attempt and seized five pickup trucks heading into Lebanese territory, loaded with approximately five tonnes of copper and tin, in addition to a large quantity of tobacco.
The unit also arrested Lebanese national (A. H.) for his involvement in the smuggling operation.
The seized items were handed over to the competent authorities, and the investigations with the arrestee was initiated under the supervision of the competent judicial authorities.
