The Army Commander in Chief meets with a delegation of the families of victims who drowned off Tripoli
The Lebanese Army Commander in Chief General Joseph Aoun received in his office in Yarzeh a delegation of the families of victims who were onboard the boat that sank off Tripoli, including a number of survivors, in the presence of the Director of Intelligence, Head of the North Intelligence Branch and Commander of the Naval Forces.
The delegation members went over their affliction with the loss of their relatives, noting that it was the poor economic conditions that pushed them to flee by sea. As they renewed their confidence in the military institution and its wisdom in dealing with this matter, they implored for the continuous search to find the remaining missing persons.
For his part, General Aoun affirmed that this tragedy afflicted everyone, and that the victims are sons of the homeland, consequently the sons of the military institution, stressing that the investigation is ongoing within the legal path from the first moment of the tragic incident, and that it will be completed with absolute transparency and impartiality.
The Army Commander in Chief pointed out that the relationship between the Lebanese army and the people of Tripoli is strong, and no one can distort it for any goals, calling on the families of the victims not to allow this issue to be exploited. He assured them that the army was continuing its search, and that the Army Command had communicated with countries friends of Lebanon that have the capabilities to retrieve the boat, and had sent them all the necessary information and documents. He added that these countries expressed their interest in this humanitarian issue, hoping that they would respond quickly.
