Attempt to Smuggle Goods Across the Northern Borders Thwarted and an Army Unit Comes Under Fire

The Army Command - Directorate of Orientation issued the following statement:

On 20/09/2023, an army unit thwarted an attempt to smuggle goods from Lebanon to Syria across the northern borders. The smugglers fired at the unit members who responded in kind, resulting in the injury of one of the smugglers who was later transported to a hospital and subsequently passed away.
The seized items were handed over and the investigation was initiated under the supervision of the competent judicial authorities.
