Special Strike Force units and units from the Airborne Regiment and the Air Force conducted a live ammunition combat drill with the participation of an American training team at Hannoush - Hammat. The drill was attended by the LAF Commander General Jean Kahwagi and the Commander of the United States Central Command General Joseph Votel in addition to the United States Ambassador to Lebanon Mr. Richard Jones. The drill simulated an operation aimed at liberating kidnapped individuals taken hostage by terrorist groups. It included landings and close air support while helicopters destroyed terrorist targets. Furthermore, Air to Land missiles in addition to heavy and medium weapons were used and IEDs were detonated.
At the end of the drill, both General Kahwagi and General Votel commended the performance of the units that conducted the drill and the good coordination between the Air Force unit and the land units. Both Generals confirmed the continued cooperation in the field of conducting combat drills during later stages.
Following the drill, the LAF Commander held a meeting at his office in Yarzeh with General Votel in the presence of Ambassador Jones where discussions tackled the LAF’s needs in light of the United States Aid Program as well as the means to further boost military cooperation between both sides on all the levels.
