The Minister of National Defense and the Armed Forces Commander toured the South Litani sector
The Armed Forces Commander General Joseph Aoun toured the headquarters of the South Litani sector in Tyr where he met with the commander of the sector and the commanders of the units deployed in the south. General Aoun was informed of the situation in the region and the field measures taken at the borders. Moreover, General Aoun addressed the officers and soldiers saying: “thanks to your efforts and your commitment to perform your missions with professionalism and dedication, the Easter period is passing through peacefully and safely. You are doing your duty towards your parents and nation and you are vigilant in defeating the dangers of the Israeli enemy that is still lurking to target us, and vicious terrorism which security threat still stands, even though we achieved a sweeping victory at the eastern outskirts.” General Aoun called to refrain from believing rumors that target the LAF and to abide by the instructive of the command.
General Aoun received the minister of National Defense Elias Bou Saab in the frame of his tour in the south that began with the sector headquarters. Both parties attended a briefing concerning the work of the sector and the units deployed in the south as well as the coordination mechanism with the UNIFIL in implementation of Resolution 1701 and its stipulations.
Mr. Bou Saab addressed the officers and soldiers saying: “we are proud of the achievements of LAF units deployed in all Lebanese regions, particularly in the South, in order to preserve stability”, stating that the economy is tightly linked with security, which means that the LAF directly contributes to improving national economy.
Mr. Bou Saab and General Aoun then moved to the UNIFIL headquarters in Naqoura where they were received by the UNIFIL Commander General Stefano Del Col. Both sides held a meeting in which they discussed the security situation in the region as well as the measures taken by the LAF in cooperation with the UNIFIL in order to preserve stability in the South. Particularly at the Blue Line. During a press conference, General Del Col commended the relationship joining the UNIFIL to the LAF and considered it as a strategic partner. Furthermore, Mr. Saab commended the level of cooperation between the LAF and the UNIFIL in order to preserve stability in the region and slammed the continuous Israeli violations by land, water and in the air and surveillance actions that violate the Lebanese sovereignty and Resolution 1701, confirming Lebanon’s commitment international resolutions. Mr. Bou Saab also commended the intensive efforts exerted by the LAF and the UNIFIL in South Lebanon and stressed the importance of boosting the capabilities of the LAF in order to defend every part of the Lebanese land.
Afterwards, General Aoun moved to the headquarters of the 5th Infantry brigade in Biyada where he toured the departments of the brigade and addressed the officers and soldiers saying: “ the LAF is now the center of attention of the world and the source of pride of all Lebanese, so be at the height of this trust.” General Aoun also stated that all countries of the world invest in armies and called to immunize national accomplishments that have cost numerous sacrifices.
